Investigation of the decomplexation of polyamide/ <scp> CaCl ₂ </scp> complex toward a green, nondestructive recovery of polyamide from textile waste

The ‘circular economy’ concept envisages deriving the maximum value out of resources and reducing waste to a minimum. In textiles, that includes recovery fiber materials used clothing reusing them in construction new clothes. Processes such as mechanical separation, depolymerization treatment, selective dissolutions individual polymers are applied. We investigate approach nondestructive dissolution polyamide from mixed textile by using solvent system CaCl2/ethanol/water (CEW) based on complexation decomplexation (PA). results show PA is precipitated decomplexed simple addition water substantial amount previously incorporated calcium complexation, removed. recovered shows properties similar pristine polyamide. Investigation model polyamide/wool demonstrates CEW treatment can successfully separate different materials. dissolving CEW, clearly benefit, be separated controlled complexation/decomplexation without degradation, thus avoiding repolymerization step. Furthermore, made abundantly available inexpensive widely industrial-scale operations. Thus, will make significant contribution green recycling approach.
